Creation of Man
and Woman and God's plan for them to be together
Genesis
1: 27
So God created man in his own
image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:
20b -23
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to
fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's
ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from
the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman' ,
for she was taken out of man."
Genesis
2: 24
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his
wife, and they will become one flesh.
Mark
10:6-9
"But at the beginning of creation
God 'made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father
and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together,
let man not separate."
Until death do us
part
Romans
7:2
For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as
he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of
marriage.
Ruth - Chapter 1:16-17
But Ruth replied "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from
you. Where you go, I will go and where you stay I will stay. Your people
will be my people and your God my God.
Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal
with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and
me."
First Corinthians - Chapter 7:10-11
To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must
not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried
or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his
wife.
First Corinthians - Chapter 7:39
A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.
On faithfullness:
Hebrews
13:4
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will
judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Luke
- Chapter 16:10
Whoever can be trusted with
very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with
very little will also be dishonest with much.
Proverbs
- Chapter 20:6
Many a man proclaims to have
unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?
Proverbs
- Chapter 5:20-21
Why be captivated, my son,
by an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife?
For a man's ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all his
paths.
Proverbs - Chapter 6:23-29
For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the
corrections of discipline are the way to life,
keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward
wife.
Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you
with her eyes,
for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress
preys upon your very life.
Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?
Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
So is he who sleeps with another man's wife; no one who touches her
will go unpunished.
Ephesians
- Chapter 5:3
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or
of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s
holy people.
Matthew - Chapter 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, "Do not commit adultery."
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
First Corinthians - Chapter 6:18-20
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
On Love
Romans
12:10b
Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans
12:12
Be joyful in hope, patient in
affliction, faithful in prayer.
1 Cor
13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it
is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.
1
Cor 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of
these is love.
Col
3:12-14
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves
with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with
each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.
On Submission:
Ephesians
5:21-31
Submit to one another out of reverence
for Christ.
Wives, submit to your husbands as
to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of
the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to
Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself
up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through
the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or
wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands
ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just
as Christ does the church-- for we are members of his body. "For this reason
a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two
will become one flesh."
Col
3:18-19
Wives, submit to your husbands, as
is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
